The #1 Best NYC Corporate Chair Massage Company Talks about Exercise and Stress Management

Chair Massage, Exercise and Stress Management

Remember that massage is a form of passive exercise. Active exercise adds an entirely new component to this work.   Freedom of movement is one of the keys to physical and emotional health. For creating and maintaining emotional health movement can be a source for unlimited creativity.  It is a natural response to music and is a key means for expression.   Physiologically movement acts as a pumping mechanism for the body initiating the exchange of essential fluids at all levels of the organism.  Through this movement of fluids the body is able to determine metabolic specific areas as well as in the entire body. Instinctually, our ability to see movement in our mother’s or an inanimate object is the first clue we may use to determine if life exists. When we are babies our bodies are soft and pliable.  Body unity is already there.  It isn’t something you have to develop, create or form.  The various systems of the body are not distinct other than in how we view them. Fascia, Muscles, bones and nerves are all connected intricately.

We respond to stimuli with a large range of physical motions as we bounce back quickly from physical and emotional stress.  As we leave childhood, our physical movements are defined more and more by societal pressures, organization, and accepted images that are imposed on us through television and other media images.  These factors limit the development of our full physical, emotional and spiritual potential and help establish rigid patterns of thought, action and feeling.

Two key factors in the development of our body structures are our need to have approval of our appearance and our need to feel safe. Many of us create to others with our body language that distances us from others. We want to avoid physical and emotional pain and we use posture and movement styles that will create approval from others even if it may create structural problems.

In complex and somewhat surreal series of events we find ourselves acting in ways that we expect others to approve of.  Others see these actions and respond to them.  We then respond to their response to our actions and so on and so forth.   After a while we are so detached from our true nature that we lose touch with our feelings and any sense of self-knowledge.  This detachment from self causes physical rigidity, fear, confusion and various structural and muscular problems.  In order to shift the way we act, it is essential that we have a distinction between our physical body and the social body that influences us.  Once we have this distinction we change our self-image and the motivations tied to it. The more conscious we are of our actions the greater our potential for freeing ourselves from habitual patterns of thought and action. This freedom enables us to expand our emotional and physical capabilities.  Movement is a valuable medium in which to create this shift and is an important key to the nervous system and to all our actions, thoughts, and feelings.  The role of the myofascial system in the freedom or limitation of movement is an interesting one.

When the embryo is still in the womb, individual muscle fibers form in a matrix of fascia. This appears as a single fascial sheath.  As time passes, and you change spiritually, emotionally and physically the fascia changes as well. If you were to break your arm for example the fascia around the healed bone would become thick, tough and stringy. This lesion or knot can be felt when you massage and poke around the area.  Lesions of this type will limit the normal range of motion in neighboring muscles by shortening the fascial planes and creating adhesions between fascia, muscles and bones. This can be the foundation for physical and emotional disease by limiting body movement and the flow of essential fluids through the flesh. Even weight lifting and strength building if not accompanied by stretching and proper postural training will contribute to these problems.  In extreme physical and emotional blocks the fascial covering of one muscle group may become enmeshed with the fascia of another group resulting in restricted movement through the area and limited emotional expression and self-awareness.   Many people live with various medical problems that are asymptomatic or are never properly diagnosed but which cause energetic and structural blockages in the system.  For example, there have been people who suffered with undiagnosed Polio. This deeply affected the fascia and the associated psoas muscles by limiting movement and balance in the pelvis and legs.  Yet no one would ever know the source of the problem.  Any trauma to the system, whether physical or emotional, can cause structural shifts by influencing the fascial plane.
