The best massage book for corporate stress management

When my team at the NYC Chair Massage Company – www.eventschairmassage.com – recently worked at a barbeque at Jones beach and at the Javits Center in NYC we had the opportunity to offer stress management programs to a number of companies. we are always concerned with which come first; the body or the mind.  We combine both and offer chair massage, speakers, corporate yoga, meditation classes, and always use a holistic approach.

Body-mind explorations as practiced by the NYC Corporate Chair Massage Company – www.eventschairmassage.com – integrates corporate stress management with touch, bodywork, movement and chair massage.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Holistic Therapy is a term I have coined to describe the type of emotional healing that explores biochemical, structural (musculo-skeletal), mental and spiritual issues as  factors in why a person has emotional challenges. This integrative approach recognizes that emotional stress does not come from one sources but can reflect many factors sometimes in combination.

Who developed it? The term holism was coined by J. C. Smuts in Holism and Evolution. There are two many pioneers to mention however the greatest theorists in creating a holistically structured body/mind/spirit approach to Touch Somatic include Wilhelm Reich, Ida Rolf, and Jacob Moreno,

The theory of holism is based on the concept of Holism (from Greek ὅλος holos “all, whole, entire”). This  is the idea that systems (physical, biological, chemical, social, economic, mental, linguistic) and their properties should be viewed as wholes, not just as a collection of parts.

It was Smuts’ opinion that holism is a concept that represents all of the wholes in the universe, and these wholes are the real factors in the universe. Further, that Holism also denoted a theory of the universe in the same vein as Materialism and Spiritualism. The derived adjective holistic has been applied to a wide range of fields where they incorporate the concept of holism. For example, New Age is religious holism while New Thought is spiritual holism. In Touch Somatics it is an integrative approach using traditional,  and alternative and complementary tools, techniques, and philosophies to help those with physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual challenges experience health, wellness, and happiness.

In a Touch Somatics session, the educator-practitioner helps the client focus on the interaction between the brainbody, faith-based beliefs and behavior with intention to use the each of these factors to influence or alter the others. Touch-Somatic sessions usually begin with an assessment of the clients needs and expectations and may include simple bodywork and movement reeducation to more advanced approaches that may include emotional-release bodywork and more sophisticated somatic approaches. Some Touch Somatics practitioners integrate a collaborative “team” approach and bring in other therapists and practitioners.

There is occasional criticism of Touch Somatics because there is no formal standard for the approach and there has been limited research on many of the techniques and tools used. Of course one must keep in mind that there are numerous branches of traditional psychotherapy, fitness, and exercise for which the same criticism might apply.  Touch Somatics is an umbrella term for many approaches using bodywork and movement. Many trace their origins to particular individuals: for example, ‘Bioenergetic analysis’ to the work of Lowen and Pierrakos; ‘Radix’ to the work of Chuck Kelley; Organismic Psychotherapy to the work of Malcolm and Katherine Brown; ‘Biosynthesis’ to the work of David Boadella;  ‘Biodynamic Psychology’ to that of Gerda Boyesen; ‘Rubenfeld Synergy’ to Ilana Rubenfeld’s work; ‘Body-Mind Centering’ to Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen’s work, and ‘Body-mind Psychotherapy’ to Susan Aposhyan; the development of Jack Painter’s ‘Postural and Energetic Integration’ into a psychotherapeutic modality.
